This weekend we observe Sunday of the Word of God, newly established by Pope Francis in 2019 on the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time. The pope encourages all of us, as Christians and Catholics, to study, spend time with, and reflect on the Word of God in the Scriptures, so that we can live it more fully. In the history of the Catholic Church, we were not encouraged to spend time with the Scriptures. It was more of the realm of the clergy, religious, and scholars. Thankfully, this changed with Vatican II. Really, spending time with the Scriptures is not only for today, or for when we are in Church, but a lifelong endeavor. The Risen Lord, building on the Old Testament, continues to speak His truth to people of all times and places.Read More
