Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I write to you today to share that Archbishop Allen Vigneron, after prayerful consideration, has assigned Father David Burgard to serve as pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, effective July 1. In addition to this assignment, he will remain pastor of St. Mary Parish. I am most grateful to Father Burgard for his continued dedication to the faithful of Monroe.
Father Burgard also will continue to serve as pastor delegate of Monroe Catholic Elementary Schools (MCES). He will work with Father Philip Ching, pastor of St. Michael Parish, to ensure that all three sites of MCES continue to provide a sound Catholic education for its students.
It is clear that Father Burgard will have many responsibilities as pastor of two parishes and pastor delegate of MCES. To assist him, Archbishop Vigneron has assigned Father Giancarlo Ghezzi as associate pastor of St. John the Baptist, in addition to his current assignment as associate pastor of St. Mary Parish. In addition, Father Kevin Roelant will serve as associate pastor at both parishes, beginning July 1. I thank both Father Giancarlo and Father Kevin for embracing these important assignments.
Finally, I join the Archbishop in thanking Father Arwady for his service to this parish community. His new assignment will be announced at a later date.
Should you have any questions in the coming weeks, please feel free to contact Father Burgard at the parish office.
With assurances of my prayers for you, the faithful of Monroe, to St. Anne, patroness of the Archdiocese, and to Blessed Solanus Casey, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerard Battersby
Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit
