Crop Hunger Walk
Question: CROP Walks began in 1947 and have taken place in the Monroe area since 1983. What does CROP mean?

Answer: Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.

CROP Hunger Walks help to support the overall ministry of Church World Servicesto raise awareness that throughout the world there are millions of people who are forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, natural disaster, and famine. The poor and homeless have received aid in more than eighty countries including the United States.

The CROP Walk is sponsored by the Monroe Council of Churches and will take place on Sunday, October 10th, 2010. People of different faiths, cultures and ages will walk together to take a stand against hunger around the world. Donors may designate their gifts to other approved international agencies such as our Catholic Relief Services.

Local charities benefit from the CROP Hunger Walk also. 25% of the funds raised in the Monroe Area are divided equally among God Works!, Salvation Army, and St. Joseph food closet.
