| St. Vincent de Paul Society Inspired by the Gospel, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization offer man and women an opportunity to grow spiritually by giving person –to person service to those who are poor and/or in need.
Blessed Frederic Ozanam is the founder and patron of St. Vincent de Paul. Members known as Vincentians gather together embracing works of charity and justice. “The poor alone demand your time; treat them with gentleness, with tenderness, with love. They are the nobility of heaven.” St. Vincent de Paul. The above quote from St. Vincent de Paul is the spirit from which the St. Mary, St. Vincent de Paul Society ministry centers its activity. • Purpose of the Society Primary: Spiritual Growth of its members • Secondary: Serve those in need and bring them closer to God. In teams of two, Vincentians serve the poor and those in need in the following ways: Home visits to bring: non perishable food, and vouchers for clothing, furniture and perishable food, and groceries. Interviews and home visits for: Gasoline, bus fare, emergency lodging, rent, utility issues and emergency car repairs. Encouragement is always made for independency rather than dependency. St. Mary’s St. Vincent de Paul Society survives on the generous donations of its parishioners. They sponsor two fund raising events; • The Harvest Tree each September and; • Have A Meal to Help Someone pork roast dinner in October. The St. Mary Christian Women donate their proceeds raised from the Lenten Soup Lunches each year to our ministry. St. Vincent de Paul is open to all who wish to live their faith by loving and serving their neighbor. The response to our requests from St. Mary parishioners coupled with the thankfulness of the people in need result in joys and blessings to each Vincentian too numerous to count. St. Vincent de Paul ministry meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:p.m. in the Social Hall. Catch the Vincentian spirit and come to one of our meetings. |
