What is SCRIP?
IT’S FUND RAISING MADE EASY! It is so easy and effective because participants are not required to change their spending habits. You buy gift certificates from St. Mary. You pay no more for them than their face value and use them as cash. Many of the places you spend money, are already on the program and more are being added. SCRIP is available for virtually everything including gas, groceries, restaurants, department stores… the list is extensive.

How does it work?
Gift certificates are purchased from area and chain merchants at the discount they offer us—some 2%,5%,10%,15% or . . . The gift certificates of varying amounts are sold to you for face value to use just as you would cash or gift cards. The difference between purchase price and face value is the profit for the program. In St. Mary’s program, the profit is then split in half. The first half goes to the school to help keep tuition costs down for all our students. The second half is credited to the buyer’s choice of accounts. Currently, there are three options. (1) Tuition credit for the buyer’s child/ren attending St. Mary’s School. (2) Tuition credit for a family other than the buyer’s whose child/ren attend St. Mary’s School. (This is frequently used by grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and co-workers. (3) The school fund. (Which means 100% of the profit would go to the School.)

Why should I participate? Why not? — Is the real question.
(1) It does not cost any more to use the certificates than it would to make your purchases with cash. (2) SCRIP could help with household budgeting.
(3) SCRIP makes gift giving easy! Use it for birthdays, Christmas, weddings, etc.
The best reason to use this program is the profit goes to our School and Church! The more people that participate, the better for us. Whether your focus is to keep the school tuition down or to assist in paying off our parish debt, our SCRIP program is worthwhile and effective.
